We are extremely grateful to Alfred, Yariv and other colleagues to acknowledge our suggestion dealing with formative assessment philosophy. We share Alfred’s idea to choose one approach, which will combine tools aimed at teacher to student and student to student feedback. Our team has been considering for a long time which tool would be original and different from the tools presented by other groups and which would be adaptable for use in higher educational institutions. This is the reason why we regard that the “Critical Friend” approach fully meets the criteria required by the ASSET project. Critical Friend is not one-off event but rather the approach carried out throughout the whole course. It helps to develop strategies for learning to do in the positive collaborative learning environment.
We should point out that critical friend is employed in the professional development of teachers at schools. However, it has never been used in higher education space. Our team is going to adapt this powerful formative assessment approach for HEIs. First, we will adapt the tool and then adopt it.
